In a joint appointment procedure of the University of Leipzig and the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research e.V. (TROPOS) is a

W2-Professorship "Experimental Aerosol and Cloud Microphysics"

of the Faculty of Physics and Earth Sciences associated with the location of the Head of the department "Experimental Aerosol and Cloud Microphysics" at TROPOS to be filled by 1.2.2021 at the latest.

TROPOS is an institute of the Leibniz Association and there a member of the Environmental Sciences Section.

The mission of the institute is to understand processes and trends in the tropospheric multiphase system with special emphasis on the polluted troposphere. TROPOS offers excellent basic equipment and an international and renowned research environment in the fields of atmospheric physics and chemistry as well as modelling of atmospheric processes.

We are looking for a personality who is internationally scientifically recognized in the field of experimental aerosol and cloud microphysics. Proven knowledge in the fields of physical characterization of aerosol and cloud particles as well as aerosol-cloud interaction in the field or in the laboratory is required.

Innovative thinking and a strong interest in the scientific development of the department, the active acquisition of third-party funds, and the maintenance and expansion of cooperation with national and international institutions are expected. Experience in the management of scientific and non-scientific personnel as well as in university teaching is required.

Cooperation with the other departments of TROPOS as well as with the Leipzig Institute for Meteorology with regard to aerosol and cloud relevant teaching and research is expected. In addition, the new department head is expected to contribute to the national and international activities of the "Aerosol, Clouds, and Trace gas Research InfraStructur" ACTRIS. A cooperation in the Transregio 172 "Arctic Amplification" is desirable.

The rights and duties of the holder of the position result from the Saxon Higher Education Freedom Act (SächsHSFG) and the Saxon Service Ordinance (DAVOHS). The position entails teaching obligations at the university of up to 4 semester hours per week. Applicants must meet the requirements for appointment according to § 58 SächsHSFG.
