IOS is now searching for a

Researcher (f/m/d)

(part-time, 65%), starting September 1, 2024

in the newly approved project “Enhancing Capacities for Quality and Impactful Research on Transformations, Labour and Migration in Southeast-Europe” (RETLAMI-SEE). The project will be funded by the European Union (Horizon Europe). IOS is one of the project partners, together with the University of Banja Luka (lead), University of Vienna, and Scientific Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences, Ljubljana.

Remuneration is based on the German TV-L public pay scale up to TV-L E13, 65% part-time. The appointment is for 36 months.

RETLAMI-SEE is a so-called twinning project dedicated to enhancing capacities of the University of Banja Luka (UNIBL) and its researchers for conducting interdisciplinary research on transformations, labour and migration in Southeast Europe. RETLAMI-SEE specifically aims at building up capacities of early-stage researchers and recent PhD graduates from the UNIBL to pursue high quality research on policy-relevant topics.

The most important tasks of IOS in this project are: assessment of the current research capacity of researchers at UNIBL, specifically at the Faculty of Political Science; analysis of weaknesses and strengths; developing a strategy and action plan for enhancing the research profiles of UNIBL researchers; monitoring of implementation of the plan, organization of study visits, mentoring, and a summer school; participation in training events; contributing to the research part of the project on labour and migration during the transformation period.

The researcher at IOS will be responsible for the implementation of the IOS project tasks and the timely completion of IOS deliverables as specified by the Grant Agreement. The researcher will maintain communication with the project partners, participate in project meetings, and contribute to the project’s dissemination and communication activities.

We expect from the successful applicant:

  • A completed PhD in a relevant field (such as history, social sciences, cultural studies)
  • Experience of empirical research in Southeastern Europe
  • Good publication record
  • Command of Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian; and English and German
  • Country expertise (ref. Bosnia-Hercegovina)
  • Project management experience, ideally on the European level
  • Interest in multidisciplinary cooperation
  • Excellent communications and networking skills, flexibility, reliability, team spirit
