Open-Source-Application Support Engineer / System Administrator (m/f/d)

to work in our publishing services, starting as soon as possible.

The position is fixed initially for a period of two years and will end the latest on 31.10.2026. The number of hours per week is 19.90 (half-time). The remuneration is based on pay scale group 11 TV-L. If you are interested in taking on additional work, we will consider the option of extending your weekly hours by involving you in related projects.

You will be working with Open Journal Systems (OJS), one of the leading free software systems for publishing journals and conference publications. Together with colleagues, you will participate in the further development of the software and implement new services into TIB’s OJS applications. Application support incorporates tasks of system administration nature to a lesser extent.

Your tasks

Maintenance of Open Journal Systems applications:

  • Administration and Configuration of OJS applications (PHP, Shell)
  • Modification of data and APIs for interoperability and exchange
  • Automation of processes (Ansible/Gitlab CI)
  • Implementation of security updates on Linux servers (Debian)

Development and Implementation of services for our customers:

  • Analysis of customer’s requirements
  • Conceptualization and  development of solutions to fulfil the customer’s requirements in OJS (PHP), e. g. writing PHP unit tests and/or PHP scripts for data conversion, data import and data export
  • Providing technical consultation and guidance for internal and external editors of the OJS platform

Your qualities

  • University degree (Bachelor/FH-Diploma or equivalent), preferably in computer science or in a related field OR a minimum of three years of working experience
  • Good knowledge of PHP
  • Knowledge of development, adaption and configuration of web applications
  • Knowledge of Linux server administration
  • Communication and collaboration skills
  • Agile, goal- and solution-oriented approach with proven implementation skills

Desirable

  • Experience in Debian server administration
  • Experience in shell scripting
  • Experience with unit tests, Ansible and/or Gitlab
  • Good knowledge of the German language
