The Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) analyses the causes of international and intrastate conflicts. As one of the leading peace research institutes in Europe, we combine interdisciplinary basic research with science transfer to the public, the media and policymakers. Since 2009, the PRIF has been a member of the Leibniz Association, a national umbrella organization of outstanding non-university research institutes in Germany. To join our team, we are looking for a:

Head of a research group (Postdoc) (m/f/d) 

in the field of “Peacekeeping and Conflict Management through the United Nations” in our research department 2 “International Institutions,” full-time, salary group 14 TV-H, for a duration of 4 years (acc. to WissZeitVG § 2 paragraph 2**).

Your responsibilities include:

  • Research (development and implementation of projects) in the field of peacekeeping and conflict management through the United Nations;
  • Leading and guiding a team of two predoctoral researchers in the research group;
  • Participation in publications and the raising of external funds of the research department as well as in science communication events;
  • Participation in PRIF’s self-administration. Central committees communicate in English.

As applicant, you should fulfill the following requirements:

  • A “very good” (“sehr gut” acc. to the German grading system) doctorate in political science, sociology or another relevant discipline;
  • Preparedness to transfer scientific results to the public and policy makers;
  • A proven research focus in the fields of United Nations and international institutions;
  • Experience in the raising of external funds;
  • An international profile built on publications and research stays/field research;
  • Good knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative social science methods;
  • Willingness to work in an international team of researchers;
  • Good spoken and written command of English.
