The Leibniz Institute for Contemporary History Munich–Berlin (IfZ) has a vacancy for the position of Deputy Head of Department at the Center for Holocaust Studies and is looking for a

Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d)

to start as soon as possible. The full-time position is remunerated at salary group 14 TV-L. The place of work is Munich. Taking into account the job-related requirements, the position is also suitable for part-time employment.

The Leibniz Institute Institute for Contemporary History (IfZ) is an independent non-university research institution that researches the entire history of Germany from the 20^th century to the present day in its European and global contexts. It is a member of the Leibniz Association and is institutionally funded by the federal and state governments; in addition, the IfZ itself raises third-party funds for a wide range of research projects on contemporary history.

The Center for Holocaust Studies, established in 2013, is an international competence and communication centre for Holocaust research. It organizes conferences and workshops, carries out its own research and editing projects and contributes to university teaching on the Holocaust through its staff.

Your tasks:

• Deputise for the Head of Department in all their responsibilities
• Own academic research and publications on the history of the Holocaust and its broader contexts;
• Organization and conception of the Center's academic work together with the department head;
• Teaching about the Holocaust;
• Conception of workshops and conferences;
• Supervision of the Center's staff and fellows.

Your profile:

• Very good PhD degree in modern history/contemporary history;
• Very good knowledge of and research experience in the Nazi era, the anti-Jewish persecution and the Holocaust;
• Very good knowledge of German, English and at least one other language, preferably an Eastern or Central European language;
• Willingness to represent the Center nationally and internationally at conferences and work meetings, at public events and in response to media inquiries;
• Experience as team leader;
• Teaching experience is desirable.
