Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT), Bremen

The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research GmbH (www.leibniz-zmt.de) is an independent research and teaching institute that provides scientific knowledge for the protection and sustainable use of tropical coastal ecosystems. To this end, we work in an inter- and transdisciplinary manner with our partners in the tropics. The ZMT is a member of the Leibniz Association.

The Research Data Service at ZMT supports ZMT scientists and project partners in questions of research data management from planning to collecting, analyzing, publishing, and archiving of research data. The working group is (subject to release of funds) looking for a committed and experienced individual to join as soon as possible as a

Data Manager (50 %) (gn)

Your tasks:

  • Creation and maintenance of metadata for the description and documentation of data (basic curation) in collaboration with ZMT scientists;
  • Processing, transformation into standard formats and quality control of marine data, data products and metadata in dialogue with submitting scientists and data publishers (e.g. PANGAEA);
  • Advising and training of ZMT scientists on research data management;
  • Participation in regular meetings of the working group and partners;
  • Supporting the group leader in the development and implementation of strategies and guidelines for effective research data management and in other projects.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in natural sciences, computer science, information science or a comparable discipline;
  • Experience in describing metadata and its use for the publication of scientific data;
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills;
  • High service orientation and customer friendliness;
  • Good written and spoken English skills.

Desirable:

  • Several years of professional experience in data curation and/or data management;
  • Familiarity with database technologies and database management systems;
  • Good programming skills, ideally in Python or R.

Details of position:

Salary will be paid according to the German TV-L (EG 13). The position is available for part-time (50 % of a full-time position) employment starting as soon as possible and is initially limited to two years. A permanent position is being sought.
